Given this chart, it's essential for us to approach our decision-making with intentionality as we implement changes. We must ensure that our future tools actively benefit those who are at a disadvantage, particularly in the context of AI. This technology has the potential to either exacerbate existing disparities or serve as a powerful means to bridge them. The Football Fun Factory may look like a sports coaching organisation but what founder Tom Johnson is really trying to do is give young people life skills. The 30-year-old, from Stafford, combines being director and head coach of The Football Fun Factory with working as a high school PE teacher. He and his team work with children aged 18 months to 12 years at venues across Stafford and Cannock, using the medium football coaching to build soft skills such as working within a team, making friends and resilience. Both Tom and The Football Fun Factory have received more than 20 Your Heroes Awards nominations with Tom nominated as a Charity Champion or Volunteer and The Football Fun Factory put forward for Community Group of the Year. One parent, Kate Henderson, said: “I perhaps needed this outlet more than my son – moving from Birmingham to Stafford, not knowing anyone, with an only child that craved interaction, with a mother that craved the opposite. “Tom not only taught my son teamwork, listening, dedication, friendship etc but he also taught me, someone who has at least 10 years on him, perspective and valuable interaction skills. “I cannot promote Tom enough, from his passion, expertise and the things that can’t be taught; patience, empathy and awesomeness. If my son is ever blessed with an ounce of whatever Tom has, well, what a great human my son will become.” Tom said: “It’s absolutely wonderful and the kind words are worth their weight in gold. What Kate says underpins all of the values that I’m about. I want to make a real difference to both the children and the parents that support them. “I’ve always been inspired to work with children, right from when I was young myself. To have been given this nomination makes all the work worthwhile. I’m super grateful.” Tom’s ambition is to take The Football Fun Factory nationwide. He added: “I’ve always said, life skills over football skills. Football is the medium of the work we do, but really, it’s about getting children developing physically, socially and for them to acknowledge and use the skills which will prove useful when they go into high school and beyond. “I want to give the children a purpose and a safe place to learn. It’s important for young people to have adult role models and here we can start to begin to build up that trust and confidence. “We are in the business of forging relationships. That has spilled over to the parents who have become a community within themselves, making friends and feeling very much a part of what we do.” “I’d like to get us expanded nationwide, so children can access the services we provide without having to travel too far. Time for a little distraction? The Olympics is a distraction, but also an inspiration, for everyone, not just the physical elite. The news has been full of the amazing accomplishments of medal-winning athletes for the past couple of weeks. But we hear little about all the support staff taking part in the event. For example, the judges, adjudicators, umpires and referees who help make this a fair and even playing field by enforcing the rules in the pools, courts arenas, and on the pitch and track. These people are also at the peak of their careers. They demonstrate commitment to their sport and model many of the same qualities as the athletes. Soccer referees and hockey umpires also need physical fitness and stamina to chase the ball and players around the pitch! Baron Pierre de Coubertin, founder of the modern Olympic Games, 1908 said “The most important thing is not winning but taking part.” I like to think this includes everyone. If like me, you aren't a 'doing sports' person but enjoy getting involved you could find other ways to take part. Perhaps you could train to referee for a sport played locally or volunteer to marshall at races. I have recently joined the volunteer team at Norwich City Community Sports Foundation using my non-educator skills in my local community. It's a great way to feel part of something and help out in small ways. As you may have read in the press, Reading Football Club has reluctantly withdrawn from the Barclays Women’s Championship for the 2024-25 season, with the Women’s First Team now moving to Tier 5 of the Women’s Football Pyramid. This came as a huge disappointment for all connected with the Club. Whilst the Club recognises and encourages the huge rise in popularity and commercialisation of the Women’s game, it unfortunately does not have the required finances to increase investment into Reading FC Women. The decision clearly impacts our community, gender equality and the Club’s heritage. Also, the progress of local women’s football. Reading has been amongst the elite of the Women’s game for many years. Competing admirably alongside the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United in previous seasons despite being one of the only clubs outside of the Premier League. Furthermore, we are proud of the role Reading FC Women has played in nurturing and developing the grassroots game, providing role models for young girls aspiring to become professional footballers and a pathway for those future stars to achieve a professional career within football. This solution, however, does provide the Club with the opportunity to continue to operate a Women’s Football department, but this does require investment from parents and local businesses. We are now evaluating the option to move the Under 14 and Under 16 Girls Academy to operate under Reading FC Community Trust with a similar structure and coaching team. We want to ensure we continue our support for the girls who continue to demonstrate passion and commitment to football and have been selected by Reading FC to continue their football journey. If you are a local business to Reading Football Club would you have budget to be able to support the Girls Academy for the 2024/25 season? An investment of just £10,000 will ensure this becomes a viable option and not only will you be able to promote your support of a local community initiative but women’s football in general. We would be happy to discuss what branding and sponsorship options you would require for your organisation.

An absolute pleasure. The conversion was rich in solutions rather than a perspective of reactions. Often we look to mitigate the impact of society on our young people. Rather than looking to remove any barriers that they may face. It was great to get back to the core, with a group of individuals who which to use sport, not only as a mechanism for a professional avenue, but more to draw away the skills that sport teaches us. Having played full time football and part time in non-league. Even being lucky enough to move onto the Conference. All whilst running a business. Sport has taught me the following: - hard work is not negotiable, - just because you like something it doesn’t make the grind any easier, - resilience is a must in any walk of life, - team work is essential to build morale and culture, - you must be willing to pick others up around you where they need a helping hand. These are the same principles that I have applied to life and here at Bouncing Statistics whilst I wish for young people to learn these vital skills and values also.
